Special Show / Symposium
The Special Show covered an even wider spectrum of themes. Alongside impressive glass objects booming technologies such as photovoltaics and solar thermal systems as well as multi-functional insulating glass and innovative façade technologies were the core components of the exhibition. Exclusive exhibits such as the world’s first coloured thinfilm solar cells for integration into buildings, bent insulating glasses and switchable coatings were “living proof” of the latest glass trends.
Prof. Stefan Behling, Senior Partner at London Architects Foster and Partners and in charge of developing the Special Show, once again succeeded, along with his team from Stuttgart University, in enlisting renowned architects and planners who presented their current projects.
In close cooperation with Seele GmbH & Co. KG from Gersthofen, a leader in structural glass engineering, an innovative staircase was be used to demonstrate the potential of novel, transparent glued joints and their potential architectural applications.
Last exhibition also saw the first international architects’ congress held in cooperation with the North Rhine-Westphalian Chamber of Architects and the Technical University of Delft. Another highlight on the glasstec Saturday were the numerous information sessions geared especially to skilled craftsmen entitled “Handwerk im Fokus”. The clearly structured Special Show with its delimited themed areas ensured a rapid overview. In addition to this, all exhibits were explained in the documentation. At the accompanying technical symposium renowned speakers from architects’ offices, enterprises, research institutes and associations provided in-depth insight into the focal points of the Special Show and reported on the latest glass-related developments.
