Glass recycling event scheduled Saturday

The city of Springfield will sponsor a glass recycling drop-off event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

All colors of glass bottles or jars will be accepted if they previously held food or drink. Items such as kitchenware, window glass and eyewear will not be accepted.

“Although the value of glass is very low because of the economy, we realize that it is important to keep glass out of landfills,” Mayor Tim Davlin said.

Participants should enter the fairgrounds through Gate 11, Eighth Street and Sangamon Avenue. Traffic will be directed to the collection area and then exit the fairgrounds onto Taintor Road.
