Corning, N.Y. - With more than 30 local organizations teaching about science, museum staff said Sunday's event was the largest Families Explore program ever.
Children and adults participated in scientific demonstrations, made telescopes and saw a robotic creation shoot hoops. The event is designed to expose children to science and engineering, and to pique their curiosity in the fields.
"We saw chemical reactions and watched physical things that you can do to your body," said Abigail Bartenstein, of Corning.
For some businesses at the event, it was a way to showcase opportunities in the Twin Tiers. "The young people in our area can see a future for themselves here and know it'd be a great way to make a living so we can keep some of our talent in our neighborhood," said Jim Kuehl of Hunt Engineering, Architects, and Land Surveyors.
The Museum of Glass partnered with National Chemisty Week and the Finger Lakes Science and Engineering Festival for the event.
