A FAMILY-OWNED company started from its founder’s kitchen is celebrating being shortlisted for the highest national award in its industry.

The owners of Yeovil Glass & Window Centre have been selected as one of three finalists in the running for this years’ coveted G10 National Glass Company of the Year Award.

The business has come a long way from David and Heather Mitchell weighing out glazing putty in their kitchen in the early days of the enterprise they established from their Cornish home in the 1970s.

Over thirty years later and Cornwall Glass & Glazing has grown into a major manufacturer of double glazed sealed units and toughened glass, all created within their own state of the art production facilities.

The company operates 13 outlets across the region, spanning Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Wiltshire.

Yeovil Glass & Window Centre, acquired in 2008, is one of the area’s leading glass, glazing and window suppliers and glaziers. The company also operates branches in Exeter, Frome and Warminster, generating a total turnover in excess of £8million and employs over of 150 people.

Managing director Mark Mitchell said: “We are immensely proud to have been shortlisted in the Glass Company of the Year category at the G10 Awards, which is very much the Oscars for our industry.”

Mark will lead a delegation of representatives from Cornwall Glass & Glazing when they attend the G10 Glass Industry Awards, hosted by comedian Jimmy Carr, which will be held at Wembley Stadium in December to find out if they have won.
