Yes, it's glass; no it's not for kids and yes, it is really cool. It's the Glass Construction Kit created in 1920 by Bruno Taut. They are glass blocks in various shapes and colors (including some clear pieces); packaged in the original, wooden, octagonal box in which they originally came.
The idea is that, because they are translucent glass, the buildings change color and brightness as the light plays through the sides. It's truly fascinating to play with and beautiful to look at.
