Under a new curbside recycling contract between Midland Davis Corp. of Moline, and the City of Rock Island, residents can now recycle glass by taking it to the Moline facility。
Midland Davis at 3301 4th Ave., Moline, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.Saturday.
The three-year contract also provides an incentive that could save the city money.
If the city can increase its number of curbside recycling subscribers, which is around 2,300, to 3,000, it will cost the city $2.51 per subscriber per month instead of $2.87.
"We're continuing to promote it and encouraging people to sign up," City Manager John Phillips said of curbside recycling.
The savings would not be passed on to subscribers, who already pay less than that, but would reduce the city's expenses.
When the program began in 2008, Rock Island subscribers were charged $3 per month for the service, but last year, the city dropped that to $2 when it introduced a solid waste fee for residents, Phillips said.
The city started its program with around 1,500 subscribers.
