The largest supplier of specialty glass for LCDs said its Q4 EPS rose 5% to 46 cents, missing by a cent, though it posted broad sales gains across most of its segments including its core display technology unit. Sales climbed 15% to $1.77 bil, beating views for $1.6 bil. Gross margins rose to 46% from 39%. Sales of Corning's (GLW) specialty materials segment, which includes scratch-resistant Gorilla glass, surged 79%, and Q1 sales are seen doubling. Shares gained 8% to 21.21.
