NASHVILLE, Tenn.— United Auto Workers officials say Carlex Glass America's acquisition of a Zeledyne glass plant at Nashville has saved 600 jobs.
A UAW email statement Friday said Carlex and the UAW together saved the Nashville plant and distribution center at Lebanon.
Company officials did not return a telephone message seeking comment. The Carlex web site says Carlex acquired assets from Zeledyne that included their fabricated glass plant in Nashville and the distribution center in Lebanon.
UAW Region 8 director Gary Casteel said that without the company and union cooperating "there is a good chance the plant would have closed."
