Glass maker picks NC town as site for new plant

Post Time:Apr 14,2011Classify:Company NewsView:591

A leading auto glass manufacturer has chosen a Surry County, N.C., town over 87 other locations as the site for its new plant.

Gov. Beverly Perdue's office said Tuesday that Pittsburgh Glass Works plans to invest more than $85 million in the facility in Elkin. The company expects to create more than 260 jobs over four years.

The Pennsylvania company has more than 4,000 workers worldwide and has distribution operations in Mecklenburg and Wake counties.

Perdue attributes Elkin's success partly to a $500,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

That fund provides financial aid to businesses the governor deems vital to the state's economic health.
