TOKYO (NQN)--Nippon Electric Glass Co. (5214) said Monday it will start mass-producing chemically strengthened glass in mid-April for smartphones and other mobile devices.
The firm said it will use a technique of forming large glass sheets that will enable efficient mass production.
The growing markets for smartphones, tablet PCs and other mobile handsets have boosted demand for chemically strengthened glass, which is stronger and less prone to getting scratched than standard glass.
The firm said it targets a "20-30% share of the chemically strengthened glass market in fiscal 2012."
