A bottle design that will make beer taste different? Yeah right.
Tui, renowned for its cheeky Yeah Right billboards and saucy campaigns, is about to launch a new bottle it says will revolutionise the beer market.
Its award-winning Tui Blond Lager will hit the shelves on June 6 in the new bottle.
Parent company DB Breweries said it would be the first product in the southern hemisphere to be bottled with a ''vortex internal neck emboss'' - think, rifling in a gun barrel.
Manufactured and trademarked by O-I Glass in Auckland, the new vortex bottle is said to work by ''invigorating the beer as it flows over a series of spiral grooves''.
''The technology was originally developed because consumers were no longer pouring beer into a glass before drinking which is what releases the beer's flavour and aroma,'' DB said.
''The team at Tui believe the new vortex bottle will create a similar experience.''
MillerCoors introduced Miller Vortex in the US in March last year, describing specially-designed interior grooves that ''created a vortex as you're pouring the beer''.
The Tui Brewery won Best New Zealand Lager at the 2010 BrewNZ Awards, then Gold at the Monde Selection awards in Belgium this year.
The brand's packaging has also been redesigned and featured a new 3D brand badge.
William Papesch, Tui's brand Manager, said the revitalised appearance and new vortex bottle would make the beer a ''more relevant and contemporary offering".
Tui will run a new television commercial from June 26 which will see the boys back at the Mangatainoka brewery to get a detailed explanation of the new vortex bottle from a female brewer.
