Glass Weekend returns to Millville

The Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass and the Creative Glass Center of America at Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center will present Glass Weekend '11 Friday through Sunday.

The international symposium and exhibition of contemporary glass will be held at Wheaton Arts, 1501 Glasstown Road, Millville. This biennial event brings together artists, collectors, galleries and museum curators for a three-day weekend of exhibitions, lectures, hands-on glassmaking, demonstrations and social events.Richard Royal and Giles Bettison are the guest artists, and Dan Dailey is the keynote speaker.

The artist demonstrations take place during the weekend on a rotating schedule in the Glass Studio. A private demonstration for Glass Weekend registrants is scheduled for Sunday morning.

The art galleries in the Event Center show the most current work of hundreds of professional artists working in glass today. It is considered one of the most extensive presentations of museum quality glass vessels and sculpture assembled in one location. The exhibiting galleries are: Donna Schneier, Fine Arts Palm Beach, Fla.; Duane Reed Gallery, St. Louis; Encore Glass and Fine Art, Westmont, Ill.; The Gallery of Fine Craft, Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center, Millville; Habatat Galleries, Royal Oak, Mich.; Heller Gallery, New York; Jane Sauer Gallery, Santa Fe, N.M.; Ken Saunders, Gallery, Chicago; Litvak Gallery, Tel Aviv, Israel; Maurine Littleton Gallery, Washington, D.C.; Morgan Contemporary Glass Gallery, Pittsburgh; Mostly Glass Gallery, Englewood; Scott Jacobson Gallery, New York; Stewart Fine Art Gallery, Boca Raton, Fla.; Thomas R. Riley Galleries, Cleveland; and Wexler Gallery, Philadelphia.

In addition, an assortment of Venetian glass jewelry by artist Leslie Genniger of Genninger Studio in Venice, Italy, will be available for purchase in The Gallery of Fine Craft from 11 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Also, the Brownstone Emporium will host a trunk show of silk wearables by artist Kathy Robinson from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Brownstone Emporium also will host a display of one-of-a-kind art jewelry by Elise Winters from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Day visitors are welcome on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $7 for students, and free for children age 5 and younger. Wheaton Arts and the Glass Studio demonstrations are included in the price of admission. There is an additional fee of $6 to visit the galleries. Event Center hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Proceeds benefit the Creative Glass Center of America Fellowship Program. Additionally, Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass dedicates portions of the proceeds to help fund museum exhibitions that further the development and appreciation of art made from glass.
