Collectors of antique lamps and art glass around the world will have to chance to bid live online via Artfact Live! at James D. Julia’s important two-day lamp and glass auction June 22-23, 2011. Featured lots include fine lamps from Tiffany, Duffner & Kimber, Handel, Pairpoint and a selection of early Victorian to contemporary art glass. For additional information, or to bid live online from anywhere in the world on Artfact Live! please visit www.Artfact.com.
Highlighting the collection is a Tiffany Studios peony table lamp. The lamp boasts a stunning peony shade with richly colored peonies against a mottled yellow background. The lamp’s petals are executed with red and pink glass swirled with white, giving the flowers a distinct naturalistic feel. A Tiffany Studios four-foot base features an onion design encircling a cushion bottom. The base is finished in a rich brown patina with green highlights. This signed and stamped piece is expected to bring $85,000 - $100,000.
Additional lamps in the sale include a Duffner & Kimberly peacock table lamp. The lamp’s intricately designed shade depicts peacock feathers with eyes in full plumage. The shade displays a rich and diverse variety of colored and textured glass in deep blues and purples, set against a highly textured green and amber background. Representing the epitome of the Art Nouveau period, the shade flows almost seamlessly between colors. An original Duffner & Kimberly four socket base is included, and features vertical ribbing extending down to a circular foot. The piece is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Paul Crist Studios and is estimated at $45,000 - $55,000.
A wide variety of art glass is also featured in the second session of this exciting two-day auction. Included in the selection is a Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre malfrey pot. The pot is decorated in Wedgwood’s “Bubbles II” pattern, with purple fairies surrounding the pot and bright green botanical elements. The lid is adorned with a center medallion in the form of a large spider, its web surrounded by a band of purple fairies in green Sycamore leaves. The pot’s interior has a pearlescent finish with a large medallion in the bottom surrounded by a band of gold gilt fish against a blue background. Markings on the underside read “Wedgwood Made in England” and include manufacturer’s numbers. This remarkable piece is estimated to sell for $25,000 - $30,000.
With nearly 700 lots in total, the auction features a bevy of additional lamps from Tiffany Studios and other major manufacturers as well as a diverse selection of both vintage and contemporary art glass by Wedgwood, Lalique, Porcelli Studios, Steuben and more.
