Glaston, www.glaston.net, and Glass Performance Days, www.gpd.fi, joined with the City of Tampere, Finland, and Tampere University of Technology to organize an architectural competition to design several glass structures to be built in central Tampere over the next few years. ALA Arkkitehdit's proposal," Magnolia", emerged as the winner for the first round of the competition, to design a glass pavilion for the Bank of Finland Square, according to a June 17 GPD release.
The goal of the architectural competition was to look into and apply the new opportunities that have opened up in glass architecture and to construct a high-quality landmark in central Tampere that would also serve as a meeting point for Tampere residents.
