Tech tip: Re-installing the OnStar FMV Mirror

OnStar officials recently introduced the OnStar FMV rearview mirror that aftermarket consumers can purchase at OnStar FMV authorized retailers. In conjunction with the product introduction, OnStar is reaching out to manufacturers, distributors and installers of replacement auto glass to inform them of the proper procedure for re-installing the OnStar FMV Mirror.

The majority of the OnStar FMV Mirror installations require a special kit to accommodate the increased weight of the unit. These kits reinforce the existing mirror/windshield mount (small wedge or foot) with primer, adapter and specialized glue. Since this is a safety device, it is critical the FMV Mirror be re-installed correctly with a replacement kit for the unit to work properly, OnStar officials report.

If an OnStar FMV Mirror is installed in a windshield needing replacement, the auto glass technician should refer the consumer back to the retail location where they purchased the unit for proper re-installation. Technicians can also go to www.onstar.com/web/fmv/home for a list of authorized OnStar FMV Retailers.
