A Huntsville company, which has created quite a buzz the past year, is struggling. Alabama Glass Recyclers, which used to be called Green Mountain Glass, is now looking to the public to keep going.
Alabama Glass Recyclers has only been open about a year. But last month it had to start laying off 19 of its employees. The company, which takes recycled glass and turns it into products like countertops and tables, hit a rough spot.
Lania Rivamote, is one of the owner of Alabama Glass Recyclers. She said, “We physically do not have enough equipment to meet the orders we’ve gotten in.”
According to Rivamonte, “Our first order of business is to get in some capital, so we can build forms.” She says in order to build those slabs of countertop material, each one requires a custom made steel form. She adds, “In order to make as many as we need to make to meet our order, we need to have 20-25 more of these forms.”
Right now they`re applying to Angel Investor Groups and are looking to individual investors to try and get the capital they need to move forward. And above all, they`re not giving up hope. Rivamonte says, “We had some great people working here. Hope to get them back.”
Rivamonte told us last year the company kept more than 560 tons of glass out of landfills. The projected amount for this coming year is more than 700 tons.
