Japan Develops Invisible Glass, Watch Where You’re Going

Nippon Electric Glass Co LTD has developed a glass substrate with luminous reflectance of lower than .1%. If that means nothing to you, allow us to make it clearer for you: invisible glass.

Invisible glass is actually the official name given to the product, which was on display (not that we could see it) at the 2011 Exhibition Convention on Flat Panel Displays which took place in Yokohama last month.

 

By forming an antireflective film on the front and back sides of the glass substrate, Nippon Electric Glass was able reduce the reflection of light on the glass to the point where it is almost completely invisible.

 

Standard glass is said to reflect 8% of light that passes through it, while Invisible Glass is said to reflect only about .5%.

 

Conference attendees claim that it was difficult to see the glass panel on display even if they were standing right in front of it.
