NFRC Sets up Task Group for Residential CMA

At its recent Fall Membership Meeting, November 7-10 in Atlanta, the officials of the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) of Greenbelt, Md., discussed the possibility of using Component Modeling Approach (CMA) for residential applications.

The officials established a task group with John Lewis of Simonton Windows as the chair. Margaret Webb, executive director of Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance of Ottawa,, volunteered to sit on the task group and act as co-chair.

"I'm hoping that with some of the lessons learned that the residential CMA program will actually meet the needs of the industry and by extension we may be able to address the issues in the nonresidential program," Webb says. "Either way, it's important that the industry is represented as we know from past experience that once a decision has been made to develop a program, it's going to happen irrespective of how individual industry stakeholders feel."

The CMA for residential applications has always been a possibility, says Tom Herron, communications and marketing manager for NFRC. "NFRC may consider implementing it in the future, but currently there is no timeline for doing that."
