WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat and town mayor Mike Biggin swung into action at the opening of the new Britplas manufacturing plant in Woolston last Friday.
They wielded pick-axe handles and cricket bats to demonstrate the strength of the Safevent security windows that the plant will make especially for the secure hospitals sector.
Britplas was formed in 2005 with just two staff, but now employs 60 workers following its latest expansion.
Chairman Kevin Gorman designed Safevent for Liverpool’s Rathbone secure mental health hospital. The windows can prevent attempted suicide by hanging and are escape- proof.
It has also been adopted as the window to specify on all NHS secure facilities.
Mr Gorman said turnover has doubled year-on-year and more than £2m of orders have been clinched in the past fortnight, including £500,000-worth from Australia.
He added: “We are not just making windows. They have the potential to save lives.”
