ESKOM Started Pilot Project of Solar PV

Post Time:Jan 10,2012Classify:Industry NewsView:539

(China Glass Network) Recently, Gauteng ESKOM laid a foundation for the solar PV power of Lethabo thermal power station, marking the formal start of pilot project of solar PV. Its first stage is to provide power for every thermal power station of ESKOM by introducing solar PV power system, to reduce the consumption of carbon.

ESKOM has established a long-term strategy of energy conservation and emission reduction. And the urgent task is to reduce the emissions of existing plants. The pilot project of solar PV is an important part of this strategy. ESKOM will absorb the experience from pilot project, then gradually popularize it to thermal power stations. The proposed solar PV stations will generate electricity of 1.55 megawatts, annually reduce carbon of 2845 tons.

The minister of Public Enterprise Department of South Africa said this project was one of major measures of Green Economic Convention implemented by government of South Africa. It will promote the development of Green Energy Department of South Africa, create lots of jobs. South Africa has made great efforts to develop Green Energy Department, including solar power plant of 100 megawatts in Upington, Northern Cape, wind power plant of 100 megawatts in Western Cape.
