Seeing the promising prospects for container glass, Taiwan Glass Group, Taiwan’s largest glass maker, plans to expand production capacity at its plant in Hsinchu County, northern Taiwan by integrating two old production lines and adding a new one.
With the new production capacity to be set up in the first quarter of 2013, the group said the expansion will help achieve annual production value of NT$1 billion of container glass, as well as consider developing its own brand for container glass.
The Hsinchu plant mainly rolls out container glass, food-container glass, kitchen glass and embossed glass, with the seven kilns able to churn out 154,000 metric tons of container glass per year.
Taiwan Glass only focuses on filling OEM/ODM (original equipment/design manufacturing) orders for internationally renowned manufacturers of home appliances and hardware, but will, after the completion of the plant expansion, will begin to engage in retail by setting up its own brand.
P.S. Lin, president and CEO of Taiwan Glass, says his group has ample experience as OEM/ODM and will venture into own-brand, container glass business.
In addition, the group will engage in high temperature-resistant container glass for the baby and infant market, which will help raise added value of products.
Preparing for the own-brand products business, Taiwan Glass has been a sales agent for wines from the Republic of South Africa; while Lin says the expected growth in the agency business will help his group boost sales of food-container glass.
