Oven glasses now much easier to keep clean thanks to a special surface treatment / New and innovative design options for appliance makers
SCHOTT has successfully launched two product innovations via the home appliance manufacturer Whirlpool, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-quality kitchen appliances: SCHOTT® CleanPlus was launched at the Eurocucina Trade Fair in Milano in April 2012 in baking ovens under the Bauknecht and KitchenAid brands. SCHOTT® SeeClear was launched at the Swissbau in Switzerland in January 2012 as well as the Eurocucina under the Bauknecht brand in the new product range BlackLine, and it was presented in a design study under the Whirlpool brand.
SCHOTT® SeeClear is also used for control panels where it makes operating and display elements more visible and thus more user-friendly.

SCHOTT® CleanPlus is the most advanced easy-to-clean coating for inner oven doors with the longest lasting performance available on the market. It’s an innovation introduced recently by the Flat Glass division of the German technology company SCHOTT, a quick wipe with a damp microfiber cloth is all that is needed to remove food residues from the glass and restore the glass to its original perfection. This state-of-the-art treatment repels spills and dirt from the glass surface, thus allowing it to be cleaned with minimal effort.
In fact, Nicola Avi, Sales Director SCHOTT Italvetro states that food won’t stick even after repeated heating at elevated temperatures. SCHOTT® CleanPlus retains its easy-to-clean function for much longer than any other product on the market. Outstanding durability and resistance to high temperatures and mechanical impact as well as chemical resistance round off the list of benefits that consumers are certain to appreciate. And because this treatment layer is invisible, it does not alter the color of the glass whatsoever”. Furthermore, SCHOTT® CleanPlus saves money and time and protects the environment by reducing the consumption of cleaning agents.
Another product innovation launched at Swissbau and Eurocucina is SCHOTT® SeeClear. This SCHOTT innovation provides completely new design possibilities for mirror coated glasses. Whirlpool launched this innovation in its BlackLine special edition of appliances from Bauknecht that consists of a built-in oven, a combi microwave and a combi steamer. In the BlackLine SCHOTT® SeeClear is used as an innovative frame design with mirror coating in the center and a black frame around, this provides a very special effect with different appearances of the glass oven front depending on the visual angle.
SCHOTT® SeeClear can also be used for control panels where it improves the usability, i.e. operating and display elements of home appliances become more visible and more user-friendly. SCHOTT® SeeClear is a new technology that allows for mirror coatings on the front side of the glass to be removed in certain areas. This, in turn, opens up innovative new design options for appliance makers because it enables virtually any type of pattern or customer-specific design to be applied to the surface of mirror coated glasses, including even 3D patterns. Highlighted brand logos and design elements are other possibilities to apply this new technology.
SCHOTT® CleanPlus and SCHOTT® SeeClear are but two examples of how SCHOTT is committed to making life easier and more enjoyable in kitchens all over the world.
