Transbay Fa?ade Transformed from Glass to Aluminum

Pelli Clarke Pelli, architects of San Francisco's Transbay Transit Center, has updated the design of the podium façade. Instead of a transparent, sinuous glass façade, the complex will be clad in perforated aluminum, a move which is expected to save the project about $10 million.    

Due to its high profile, the transit center will be a potential target for terrorism, security consultants have decided. The architects were encouraged to revise the façade and use materials with enhanced blast resistance to prevent shattering and other damage, according to inhabitat.
