Momentum Recycling opened the doors to its new glass recycling plant in Salt Lake City.

Dozens of customers, suppliers, citizens and local government officials gathered to celebrate the grand opening, the company said.

Momentum Recycling's new facility has a production capacity of over 3,000 tons of glass per month, and indoor storage for up to 1,500 tons of glass.

Utah's recycling rate for glass is approximately 4%, according to the company. With the new recycling plant, they hope to bring the state's glass recycling rate closer to 28%, the national average.

"While Utah has made tremendous strides in recycling in recent years, we have lagged behind the rest of the nation in glass recycling rates," said John Lair, Momentum Recycling CEO, in a statement. "With this new facility, recycling glass is getting a lot easier."
