Glass art work honors donors at Silver Cross

Donors aren't the only ones being touched by a recently created cut-glass donor wall featuring wind-swept leaves at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

The creative work of art commissioned by Sheri Law Art Glass Ltd. in Homer Glen is engaging the donors it honors as well as patients, volunteers and employees at the hospital.

"Donors, patients and employees have made comments about how beautiful the artwork is," said Larry Johnson, vice president of the Silver Cross Hospital Foundation.

Ads by GoogleJohnson recalled a volunteer, who said, "'The glass leaves really do draw you to the wall because of their beauty.'"

The wall displays 1,000 leaves representing individuals, businesses, foundations and organizations, said Johnson. Inscriptions express the hospital's gratitude for the donors' generosity and leadership.

Law, who had done another piece of art for the hospital's chapel, said agreeing to this job was a no-brainer.

"They've just always been great to work for, and it's such a great project for donors," said Law. "The whole theme throughout the hospital is very nature-oriented."

The hospital has a tree/leaf theme on glass and wall coverings.

Law's other work for the hospital was a stained-glass work of rolling hills, created several years ago before the new hospital campus opened.

"When they opened the new hospital, I did not know they had moved (her artwork)," said Law. "It was a great surprise."

Though much of Law's work is residential, she has also done other commercial pieces for a banquet facility at Chicago Gaelic Park in Oak Forest, the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, Navy Pier and St. Mary Immaculate Church in Plainfield.

Johnson said the hospital was excited to have the new piece of art in the lobby.

"We wanted to make an artistic statement in the main lobby that was in keeping with the hospital's natural decor and theme," he said. "Also, we wanted our benefactors to feel recognized and appreciated in a central location of honor."
