Kokomo glass factory withstands tests of time

KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) - A Kokomo glass factory that is marking its 125th anniversary is celebrating the milestone with clients from around the world.

Glass chemist Charles Edward Henry started production at Kokomo Opalescent Glass in 1888. The Kokomo Tribune reports it is now the oldest art glass manufacturer in the country.

Factory tour guide David Riggs told members of the Stained Glass Association of America who visited this week that 40 percent of the company's business is done with people outside the United States.

Clients in the last two years include people from Germany, Korea, Uruguay, Australia and Russia.

The factory's walls include hundreds of signatures from workers dating as far back as 1898.
