Glass firm to re-open in new studio

Post Time:Jul 29,2013Classify:Industry NewsView:287

ISLE of Wight Studio Glass will re-open at Arreton Barns later this summer.

After going into liquidation at the beginning of the year, the St Lawrence firm was acquired by Richard Harris, the younger brother of the founder, the late Michael Harris, and this week the family revealed they had found an ideal new home.

Michael’s son, Timothy Harris, said: "Our move is an exciting development in the long history of the company and a fantastic opportunity for us to re-invent ourselves."

The company will be the first to occupy one of the large new buildings at Arreton Barns, which have now been cleared.

Since moving into the new space earlier this month, Richard and Timothy have been working to build a new studio.

Equipment for grinding and polishing glass will be installed first, followed by the furnace.

A retail outlet for visitors will be open within the next couple of months, with production starting in the autumn.

There will be a viewing area for people to watch the glass being blown, decorated and finished before being available for purchase.
