Layoffs ahead at NSG Group float plant in Laurinburg, N.C.

As many as 75 people will be laid off at the NSG Group float glass plant in Laurinburg, N.C., following its decision to idle one of two lines, according to a July 11 report from The Laurinburg Exchange. The idling process is expected to be complete in August and September, according to NSG officials.Roberta Steedman, a spokesperson for the NSG Group, told the Laurinburg Exchange that the layoffs are temporary and that “approximately 70-75 people” would be affected.In a July 6 release, NSG officials said the company anticipated production would recommence on the idled Laurinburg line "when market conditions permit." 18.07.2012, NSG Group / glassmagazine
