Pleotint Forms an Association with Thompson I.G.

Pleotint, LLC, manufacturers of the dynamic Suntuitive™ interlayer technology for adaptively tinting architectural glass, has formed an association with Thompson I.G., LLC, an insulating glass (IG) fabricator located in Fenton, Mich. 

Association will enable expanded capabilities and availability of Suntuitive™ interlayer technology. 

Paul Ogburn, Vice President, said the association is designed to help Pleotint advance research and development of its Suntuitive interlayer technology, not to position the company as a glass fabricator.

“By creating an association with Thompson I.G., we now have direct access to lamination capabilities so that we can not only improve our product, but also learn how to better serve our glass laminator partners and end customers,” Ogburn explained. “Now, we can produce samples of laminated glass featuring the Suntuitive interlayer for our glass-laminating partners and their customers around the world and easily qualify more laminators.”

Developed by Dr. Harlan Byker, one of the world’s leading innovators of electrochromic glass technology, the Suntuitive interlayer is the first commercially available window technology that gradually darkens in response to rising temperatures caused by direct sunlight, then clears to a bright, neutral tint in cloudy or dark conditions.

Because of its ability to adapt to direct sunlight, the Suntuitive interlayer can increase the comfort of building occupants and maintain outdoor views while reducing the need for unsightly window shades or other sun-blocking devices. When used with low-emissivity (low-e) glass in IGUs, the Suntuitive interlayer has the potential to help building owners significantly reduce heating-, cooling- and lighting-related energy costs.

The Suntuitive interlayer requires no mechanical intervention, which effectively eliminates the threat of failure caused by faulty wiring, poor electrical connections, broken circuits or temperamental computer systems. Installation of windows with Suntuitive interlayer is the same as other laminated IGUs.
