Notice regarding the release of ARMOREX?, a high-strength chemical tempered glass ideal for touch panels used in smartphones, tablet PCs, and other applications

Beginning from October, Central Glass will commence sales of ARMOREX™, a high-strength chemical tempered glass that possesses both strength and cost performance for use in smartphones and tablet PCs.

With the rapid growth of these mobile devices, the percentage of them that incorporate touch panels has increased dramatically. The glass used in these devices must be of high strength in order to prevent scratches on the panel’s surface during operation and protect against breakage if dropped.

In recent years, chemical tempered glass has been used for this purpose. Central Glass’s ARMOREX™ has been developed from the soda-lime glass with our proprietary chemical temper process and has become different from exiting panels in point of sufficient strength (about six times stronger than untreated soda-lime glass) needed for cover glass. The soda-lime glass has been widely used in this field so far. Moreover, ARMOREX™ retains the beneficial processing capabilities-cutting of soda-lime glass.

In an anticipation of intense competition for market share and lower prices in this field, ARMOREX™ enables a vastarray of lower priced applications including touch panel integrated cover glass, an expected growth area. In addition, ARMOREX™ is environment-friendly, as it does not use harmful materials to the environment such as arsenic, antimony, and lead.

Because Central Glass has the integrated production operations from the cutting of sheet glass to chemical temper treatment at Taiwan Central Glass Co., Ltd. (a wholly owned subsidiary), which has a long track record within the industry in processing glass for the electronics industry, we can continuously supply stable, high-quality products .

We will expand sales and production capacity to meet market demands for touch panels, a product with further growth potential.
