London Mayor Boris Johnson opens Croydon College Extension

A challenging project to design and install glazed floors, walkways and  balustrading as part of a major new addition to Croydon College has been completed by specialist architectural glazing contractor, OAG, with the scheme officially opened by London Mayor, Boris Johnson.

The £12 million design and build scheme, awarded to main contractor ISG, was designed by architects Nightingale Associates. Now complete, the building’s glazed rotunda forms the gateway to Croydon College’s Fairfield campus.

The rotunda incorporates a double-height space below ground level, which  houses drama studios and music practice rooms. The upper levels provide light  and spacious circulation areas with glazed walkways and two panoramic lifts providing access to upper levels in the main college building.

To provide navigation around the six-storey building, the glazed walkways and glazed floor in the central atrium are colour coded. Each floor has its own colour, providing visitors with an easy way of locating which floor of the building they are on.

The glass floors, walkways and balustrading were designed, fabricated and installed by OAG.
