Quanex Building Products Corporation’s site in Kent, Wash. hosted Congressman Adam Smith on May 21 as part of its efforts to engage with lawmakers and support policies that are in the best interest of the window and door industry, as well as local communities. During his visit to the Kent facility, Congressman Smith spent time with Ric Jackson, Quanex’s director of external affairs, learning about the company’s role in the window and door industry and its advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. In addition, Congressman Smith discussed the impact of the company’s energy-saving products within the window and door industry, such as the PVC and composite window and door systems manufactured at the plant. “This is a critical time for the window and door industry to raise its collective voice in Washington, D.C., with a number of proposed tax incentive programs up for discussion,” Jackson said. “As a company, we have ramped up our efforts and are grateful to Congressman Smith for visiting our Kent facility, learning more about our business and interacting with our employees who are impacted by the decisions made in Congress.” Congressman Smith also received a plant tour where he had an opportunity to meet employees and engage with key personnel. Discussions included Quanex’s role in advancing the energy efficiency of window and door products, as well as new innovations on the horizon from Kent. However, according to Jackson, Congressman Smith’s visit was just the beginning. “We are also in the process of planning future visits with other political figures, advocating for our 2,100 employees spanning 10 states, as well as the entire industry,” Jackson said. “We will make our voice heard and hope our customers will join us in our efforts to support legislation that will help our industry grow and prosper.”
