  • “Tequila Nuestro Orgullo” (Our Pride) and the “1200°C” men’s fragrance are the two glass containers that won awards for their innovative and attractive design, supplied to Vitro’s customers Compañía Tequilera de Jalisco and Belcorp respectively.
  • The WorldStar Awards ceremony, organized by the World Packaging Organisation, will be held in June 2012 in Croatia.
San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, January 11, 2012 - Vitro S.A.B. de C.V. ("Vitro" or "the company") (BMV: VITROA) announces that the World Packaging Organisation – (WPO), headquartered in Sweden, awarded its top prize to two containers manufactured by the company in the categories of beverages, and health and beauty.

Two glass containers manufactured by Vitro for the 750 ml “Tequila Nuestro Orgullo” packaged by Compañía Tequilera de Jalisco and the men’s fragrance “1200°C” for L ?Bel packaged by Belcorp, were selected from 243 proposals presented from 33 countries.

The judging panel, consisting of 23 judges from 22 countries, identified through a strict evaluation process the “best of the best” in packaging at the international level within the framework of the annual meeting that this time was held in the United Kingdom from November 14th to the 18th, 2011. The WorldStar Award ceremony will be carried out in the month of June in Croatia.

Among the criteria used by the judges to select the winning containers were: preservation and protection of contents, packaging design, quality in production, material efficiency, creativity in its production and the container’s capacity to be recycled, among others.

"We appreciate the trust that our customers place in us to supply containers whose superior quality and innovation contributes to bolster the success of their products at national and international levels. For us it is a great honor to receive these awards, especially in such a competitive international sector," said Alfonso Gómez Palacio, President of the Glass Containers business unit of Vitro.

Roberto Romero, Marketing Director for Vitro Glass Containers, pointed out that with more than 100 years of experience in the industry, Vitro has all the elements and equipment needed to expand the boundaries of design in glass containers and provide innovative products that fit perfectly to the requirements of its customers.

"We have the ability to supply containers in the color, shape, size and capacity that our clients require. In addition, we provide comprehensive advice ranging from the initial packaging concept all the way through to the advertising strategy including the proper placement of the product at the point of sale; our services go beyond simply providing containers and we do it all under one roof", he explained.

According to Edgar Romero, Marketing Manager for the western area of Vitro’s Glass Containers business unit, the botttles for “Tequila Nuestro Orgullo”, in its three presentations (white, rested and aged), are manufactured by Vidriera Guadalajara.

"It is a wonderful depiction of an agave pineapple which provides the coveted nectar which will later become the prestigious liquid. It is a great concept showing the beautiful union of nature, translated into a beautiful jewel of charming contents. We are proud to provide a bottle of excellence for a superior and prestigious tequila, winner of the Best White Tequila in the 66th Wholesalers Convention for Liquors and Alcoholic Beverages held in Orlando, Florida in 2009", he said.

For her part, Rosa Angeles, Vitro Marketing Manager for Cosmetics, Fragrances and Toiletries (CFT), points out that the container for the “1200 °C” of Belcorp L ?Bel fragrance is manufactured by the Cosmos plant located in the state of Mexico.

"It's a highly complex container in the distribution of glass with an irregular shape and base, as well as an off-center crown where great care is taken in the perfection of its assembly with its component. The combination of degraded colors in conjunction with the design form try to evoke the energy generated from the extreme heat and the intensity of the lava flow from a volcano, showing a fiery and powerful man that follows the original concept sought by the designer", she explained.

The WorldStar Awards illustrate the progress of the best artistic creations in the packaging industry, thereby creating a parameter of perfection that serves as an example for those who are actively involved in this industry at the global level. Only containers that have already won a national competition can participate in this contest.

Thomas Schneider, who will head the World Packaging Organisation for the period 2012-2014, and will take over the responsibility from the current President Keith Pearson, points out that these proposals represent the most elite of the design and overall technology in the packaging industry.

"I am really impressed both the quantity and the quality of the proposals that clearly show the permanent process of innovation in the packaging industry around the world," he said.

The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) was established in 1968 in Tokyo by leaders and experts from the global community of the container and packaging industry and is a non-profit organization composed of a number of federations, institutions and associations dedicated to promoting scientific and technological development, as well as research in the international packaging industry.
