Glass Industry Companies Make the Ranks on 2008 Inc. 5000 List

A number of glass-industry related companies were ranked on Inc.com's 2008 listing of the 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the United States. The Inc. 5000 list measures revenue growth from 2004 to 2007. In order to qualify companies must be based in the United States, privately held and independent. They must have had at least $200,000 in revenue in 2004 and $2 million in 2007.

Some glass industry companies making this year's list include the following:

Rank Company Location
No. 696 American Defense Systems Inc. (ADSI) Hicksville, N.Y.
No. 1,151 Arrow Glass & Mirror Austin, Texas
No. 1,482 Nana Wall Systems Mill Valley, Calif.
No. 2,126 M3 Glass Technology Irving, Texas
No. 4,439 Coastal Glass Distributors Charleston, S.C.
No. 4,477 Edgetech I.G. Cambridge, Ohio

While the energy category was the fastest-growing industry segment, the government services segment-where ADSI falls-was the second fastest-growing category.

"We are honored to have been recognized as one of America's fastest-growing and entrepreneurial businesses," says Anthony Piscatelli, ADSI chief executive officer. From 2004 to 2007 the company saw revenues grow from $6.2 million in 2004 to $36.3 million in 2007.

Arrow Glass and Mirror, listed in the construction category, expanded its focus from just residential to include commercial and has seen its revenues grow from $887,671 in 2004 to $3.8 million in 2007.

"We graciously share this [honor] with our distinguished and loyal clients who have partnered with use and grown [with us]," says Daniel Davis, chief operating officer. "I believe we have built a unique business model and that we will continue to grow and provide a diversified line of high-quality glass material with an exceptional level of service." Some of the company's growth plans include exploring glass products for solar power.

M3 Glass, which earlier this year won the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Blue Ribbon Small Business Award, earned a ranking this year in the manufacturing category. The company saw revenues from $3.4 million in 2004 to $9.2 million in 2007.

"Some of the most well known and respected companies in America appear on this list and our inclusion is a direct result of our employees' hard work and our customers' loyalty," says Chris Mammen, president. "It is especially encouraging to find this success through Christian management principles. We intend to continue pursuing the quality performance that brought us to this point. The growth rate highlighted by this list is not a goal itself, but is the result of pursuing quality as our goal."

Coastal Glass Distributors and Edgetech I.G. were also included in the manufacturing segment. Coastal's revenue has grown from $17.1 million in 2004 to $26.9 million in 2007; Edgetech's from $39.7 million to $62.0 million over the same period.

"We are thrilled to once again be chosen for the prestigious Inc. 5000 list," says Mike Hovan, president of Edgetech. "This is another milestone for Edgetech as we experience continued success in the United States and throughout the world."

Jack Hoey, president of Coastal, says the importance of the recognition is what it says about the opportunities available to employees to grow with the company.

"I spent the first dozen years of my career with a giant, multi-national company that was always downsizing, and the result for a young person was that it was very difficult to advance," Hoey told USGNN.com. "Whenever a higher-level position opened up it was more likely to be eliminated than filled. As you can imagine, most of the talented young people left for places where growth was possible. The best thing about consistent, strong sales growth is that it enables you to attract and keep the talented and ambitious people who are at the heart of any company's ability to excel. They want opportunities to grow and fulfill their potential, and a company has to be growing for those opportunities to be there."
