Texas PPG Plant Closed After Torrential Storms

PPG Industries Inc.’s Wichita Falls, Texas, plant was forced to temporarily cease operations on Aug. 19 due to excessive flooding from torrential storms the day before, leading to some service interruptions.

“We temporarily ceased operations at Wichita Falls on Aug. 19,” says Mark Orcutt, PPG vice president, performance glazings. “As a result, it is commercially impracticable for us to meet our customers’ demands at this time. PPG is working diligently to minimize any disruptions to our customers and to bring the facility back into operation as soon as possible.”

Orcutt told customers in a letter that their PPG sales representative would follow up to address any issues regarding the flooding.

Production was temporarily halted on both float glass lines at the Wichita Falls facility, but workers were able to restore glassmaking on one. The second line remained idle at press time, with a startup date not known.

Damage assessments are currently underway at the plant.
