IGMA Hosts Summer Conference Next Week

The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance 2013 Summer Conference will take place August 7-10, at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel and Resort in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The event will focus on product quality, specifically through presentations covering certification, testing and in-house quality systems.Dan Braun of Architectural Testing will review NFRC 706 IG certification requirements for thermal performance and current prequalification strategies under development at IGMA. Bill Lingnell of Lingnell Consulting Services and IGMA Technical Consulting will offer a session looking at current failure trends in the industry. Mike Burk of Quanex Building Products is also on the agenda with a hands-on training session titled “In-House Testing for Manufacturing Facilities.”“Continuous quality improvement can lead to a higher first-time pass rate on insulating glass certifications,” said Margeret Webb, IGMA executive director, in an IGMA release. "The talk will focus on key failure modes and in-house testing throughout the insulating glass production that can help improve end product quality and consistency. Using a team approach to problem solving, Mike will develop cause-and-effect diagrams (fishbone diagrams) to visually identify root cases of common defects. This will help bring out a more thorough exploration of the issues behind each identified issue and will also give each attendee a tangible takeaway from the session, which can be used in the facility."In addition, all conference attendees will receive a copy of TB-1400-13, Language of Sealed Insulating Glass Units, the first of three new documents that IGMA will publish this year. “It is our pleasure to provide a free copy of the document to our attendees,” Webb said. “This document can be used instantly to help provide a common set of terms across the entire industry.”The Halifax conference will also provide several networking opportunities, including a Strolling Culinary Tour and Tall Ship Dinner Cruise.
