West Virginia to Require Shatterproof Glass in New School Construction

Last week, members of West Virginia's School Building Authority unanimously agreed to require shatterproof glass in new school construction as part of an effort aimed at stopping intruders from gaining access to schools and giving emergency responders time to answer this type of call, according to a report in the Martinsburg Journal.

The safety glazing will be installed in the front doors and first floor windows of a school, reports theWest Virginia MetroNews Network.“Shatterproof glass will assure that should an individual get to the front door, he would not have the ability to shoot out the front door glass, shatter it, reach through the door and step through,” explained Authority executive director Dr. Mark Manchin, in the article.
