HEFEI, Sep 16, 2008 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --- BOE Technology Group Co. Ltd. (SZSE: 000725) plans to spend CNY 17.6 billion building a sixth-generation liquid crystal display (LCD) production line in Hefei, Anhui Province, in a bid to come up with the rising demand for LCD panels in China.
As the first 6G LCD production line in the Mainland China, the to-be-established project will mainly provide displays used in 37-inch-and-below-sized TVs and computers. The production line, with a designed production capacity of 90,000 pieces of LCDs, is scheduled to break earth in the first quarter of 2009 and start production in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to an agreement inked by the Beijing-headquartered thin-film transistor-liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCD) producer and its partners in Hefei.
Notably, BOE Technology‘s archrival SVA (Group) Co., Ltd. is mulling setting up its 6G LCD production line in Shanghai with an over CNY 17.4 billion investment. Presently, China’s domestic TV producers buy LCDs from companies abroad.
