Pilkington officials at the Laurinburg, N.C., plant may have delayed a decision to lay off 75 people, instead opting to add 50 temporary positions at the plant in response to increased volume, according to an October 18 report in The Laurinburg Exchange. According to the report, plant officials sent the news outlet what appeared to be an announcement postponing a July decision to idle a production line at the Laurinburg facility.
“Pilkington-NSG has experienced a change in volume that will postpone the predicted layoffs and instead hire approximately 50 temporaries to work through the end of the holiday season,” the statement said, according to the article.
At press time, Glass Magazine's efforts to confirm the report with Pilkington officials had been unsuccessful.
