New construction starts rose 11 percent in April to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $531.3 billion, according to a May 22 release from McGraw-Hill Construction. The increase comes on the heels of a 23 percent gain in starts in March.
The strong starts in April can be attributed to the start of a nuclear facility in South Carolina, a "sizable" upturn in nonresidential building, and a slight increase in residential building, according to McGraw-Hill.
