1 World Trade Center, now a year and a half from its scheduled completion, will look significantly changed from the original 2006 design, according to a June 12 article from the New York Times. One of the most notable changes is the podium, which was initially designed to feature prismatic glass cladding. Glass fabrication problems, first reported in Glass Magazine, led to a major redesign of the tower's base.
The new podium design features glass fins and eliminates inclines at the corners. Read the article for more information about the redesigns, and see renderings of the original and redesigned tower.
