Updated: Trainor Glass Co. ceases operations

UPDATE: Local news outlets are reporting that Trainor Glass had several projects underway at the time of its closure, among them a $10 million contract for work on the Parkland Hospital in Dallas, according to a Feb. 22 DallasNews.com report. According to The Dallas Morning News site, Trainor alsohas a $16.2 million contract with the Museum Tower in downtown Dallas and a $2.2 million job for the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.

Glass Magazine has learned thatTrainor Glass Co., which ranked No. 3 on its 2011 Top 50 Glaziers list with annual sales of between $150 million and $175 million, has ceased operations. As of June 2011, the company employed 676 people in offices across the country.

Company officials notified all employees by the morning of Feb. 21 that the company was shutting down, according to a now former employee. “They called everybody—we found out at about 10 a.m. yesterday [Feb. 21],” the employee said. “This came as a surprise as [the Modular Wall Division] was gaining momentum and selling a lot of jobs. … We knew the glass side was having some issues—some job bids had gone wrong and were going south. But, we were doing well.”

While the company has ceased operations, it has not filed for bankruptcy, according to the employee.

The closure follows a move in March of last year, when Trainor consolidated its Champaign, Ill., and South Bend, Ind., facilities, and scaled back its Las Vegas and Wyoming operations "to reflect current market conditions."
