Sit-in at Serious Energy Chicago plant ends with 90-day reprieve for workers

Workers at the Serious Energy plant in Chicago ended a sit-in early Friday morning, Feb. 24, after the company agreed to keep the plant open for 90 days, according to a same-day Chicago Tribune report. About 65 workers locked themselves inside the cafeteria Thursday afternoon after being told that Serious Energy was closing the plant and consolidating operations in Colorado and Pennsylvania, according to the article.

"Serious Energy and UE (United Electrical Workers Union) Local 1110 have reached an agreement to resolve yesterday's situation at the Chicago-based window facility," said Serious Energy officials, in a statement on the company website. "Members of the press received incomplete and incorrect information that Serious Energy would be closing the facility immediately.The Chicago plant remains open at this time, and the parties are working together to find a new owner if possible and explore all other options."
