Employees at Guardian’s DeWitt, Iowa, float glass facility “pulled the ribbon” and resumed production, Feb. 3,following a small glass leak on Monday. The furnace leak, which occurred the afternoon of Jan. 30 while Guardian DeWitt employees were completing routine maintenance, forced a temporary halt to glass production.

Well-trained employees and a coordinated response from the local fire department enabled production to restart quickly, saidDeWitt Plant Manager Roddy Greig, in a Feb. 3 Guardian statement. “Our employees are trained and prepared to manage issues like this,” he said. “It is a testament to their teamwork and determination – and a tremendous response from our local firefighters on Monday – that we are able to resume full production in such a short period of time.”

Greig said nobody was injured and that customers were unaffected by the leak. “It’s been a busy week for us, but it’s back to business as usual.”

The DeWitt plant, which opened in 1996, manufactures float glass and fabricates special types of glass including coated glass, tempered glass and mirrors.
