Housing starts rose 15 percent in September, with multifamily construction rising 51 percent for the month, according to the Oct. 21 edition of Data Digest from the Associated General Contractors of America. Compared to September 2010, housing starts are up 10 percent, and multifamily starts 55 percent.
The value of nonresidential construction starts, however, fell 20 percent in September, following a 19 percent gain in August. Nonresidential starts for the first nine months of the year are still up 9.8 percent compared to the same period in 2010, according to Data Digest.
