Alexander A. Sakhnovsky, 84, the pioneer in curtain wall testing fondly known as "SAK", passed away June 19 in Miami Springs, Fla. A prominent figure in the glass and glazing industry, he began testing walls, windows and related products in 1955 at the University Housing Research Laboratory of the University of Miami, and eventually became director of the UM Testing Facility. In 1968, he took over the facility and opened Construction Research Lab. A respected expert in the field,SAK consulted on and tested some of the finest buildings in the world. He also was instrumental in developing the ASTM static water leakage test in the early 1960's.
