PPG Industries' industrial coatings business announcedJune 22that it is raising prices by an average of 5 to 8 percent on all its coil and extrusion coating products in North America, effective Sept. 1 or as permissible by contract.
"Raw material costs have risen dramatically during the first two quarters of 2011, and they are continuing to trend upward," said Richard Zoulek, PPG general manager, industrial coatings, U.S. and Canada, in a release. "While PPG has implemented aggressive cost-control measures throughout its operations, these efforts have not sufficiently offset surging raw material costs, thus necessitating this price increase."
Sales representatives will communicate price increase details to their customers for all products affected.
In related news, PPG officials announced the launch of an initiative designed to heighten awareness of the company's brand and support its sales efforts across many of the core markets and industries it serves. The first of its kind for the company, the marketing communications initiative redefines the PPG brand by showcasing the unique ways it brings innovation, sustainability and color technologies to its customers in a wide range of markets, according to a June 21 release.PPG's Core Marketing Branding Initiative features a new tagline, "Bringing Innovation to the Surface," that positions PPG as a "surfaces" company.
