The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has scrapped the prismatic glass design for the base of 1 World Trade Center after spending about $10 million for the glass, according to a May 11 article from the New York Times. Read Glass Magazine's coverage of the story from May 4.
According to the article, the glass proved difficult to manufacture, as the fabrication of the prismatic effect left the glass brittle and prone to shatter. The new design for the podium will likely be a more traditional clear glass.
