Grand Canyon Skywalk's glass being replaced

Although tourists wear protective coverings over their shoes in an attempt to preserve the Grand Canyon Skywalk glass, wind brings dirt and leads to scuffs. For that reason, the skywalk's glass is being replaced.

The $1.5 million retrofit began Monday [April 11]and will likely last at least halfway through next week, providing the weather is good.

The 46 new glass panels that are being lowered into the skywalk will lead to long-term cost savings for the owners, the Hualapai Tribe, and the developer and management group, Grand Canyon Skywalk Development, according to an April 13 report in The Arizona Republic.
