AGC calls for measures to boost private and public construction demand

The construction industry remains mired in recession as sector employment and spending continued to shrink even as the overall economy showed increased strength, according to an analysis of new federal employment and construction spending data released April 1 by the Associated General Contractors of America. Construction spending sank to an 11-year low in February; 1,000 construction jobs werelost in March, and the sector's unemployment rate is now 20 percent. Association officials cited the reports as further evidence of the need for measures to boost private and public construction demand to support broader economic growth, according to the April 1 AGC of America report.

AGC of Americaintroduced a plan to revive the construction industry, "Building a Stronger Future: A new blueprint for economic growth," earlier this month.
